A fearless champion of contemporary art, Betty Bierne Parsons was both an artist and a professional art dealer. As an artist she made sculptural paintings in order to free her spirit and find her artistic voice. Inspired by the windswept setting of her Long Island home, Parsons combined pieces of wood that she found along the shore into abstract constructions, as in Meridian, which is painted with brightly geometric colors on each fragment.
