Renee Adams, a local artist from Marietta, works primarily in sterling silver, copper, mixed metals, fused glass, and genuine sea glass, hand-forging and fabricating all of her pieces in her studio. Her career in metalsmithing began about three years ago while studying at the Spruill Center for the Arts. From there she formed her jewelry company, R2 Designs. Renee derives many of her design inspirations from her worldwide travels.
These earrings are made of copper, brass, and aluminum. The copper base is first run through a rolling mill to create a circle or doughnut shape. It is then cut and textured, and a patina is added to the surface. After the brass "handle" is formed and hammered, the aluminum rivets are added. The earring wires are also handmade from sterling silver. Each earring is a mirror image of the other in the pair.
