Philip Verre joined the High Museum of Art in October 2000, as Deputy Director. In 2006, Verre became the Chief Operation Officer at the High. In this capacity, he oversees the departments of Education, Museum Shop, Visitor Services, Facilities, and Security. Verre has also played a role in several of the Museum's key initiatives and institutional strategies. He was instrumental in the establishment of the David C. Driskell Prize in 2005. This is the first national award to honor and celebrate contributions to the field of African American art and art history.
Verre is also the Managing Curator for the High's fall 2009 exhibition,
Leonardo da Vinci: Hand of the Genius. He previously served as Managing Curator for two additional scholarly exhibitions from Italy, all focusing on one work of great art. These include
Verrocchio's David Restored (2003), and most recently,
The Gates of Paradise: Lorenzo Ghiberti's Renaissance Masterpiece (2006).
