Film Series: Races & Chases
Goldfinger
April 30, 2010, 9 p.m.
Free. Outdoor screening on the Sifly Piazza.
Widely viewed as the best Sean Connery Bond film (and thus the best Bond film ever, as far as we're concerned), Goldfinger finds 007 pitted against the sinister gold bullion dealer Auric Goldfinger, who plots to detonate a nuclear bomb inside Fort Knox.
In the movie the ever-stylish special agent drives a specially equipped silver Aston Martin DB5, whose featuresincluding machine guns, oil slick, smokescreen, and passenger ejector seatare lovingly detailed by Q.
Not surprisingly, Aston Martin's sales jumped by fifty percent upon the film's release.
(U.K., 1964, 112 minutes.)
Note
On display in The Allure of the Automobile is a 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato, a limited-production Gran Turismo that raced competitively.
Notes on outdoor screenings
Outdoor screenings on the Sifly Piazza are free. Bring your own blanket or seating. Outside alcohol is not permitted. In the event of rain the film will be moved to the 400-seat Rich Theatre.
