Major Gifts
One gift at a time.
The High's ability to enrich, inspire and educate broad audiences through the arts is made possible by individual gifts from people like you. Use the tabs below to find a program you are interested in, and contact us to find out how your gift can help the High Museum of Art.
Art Access
The Art Access program helps remove economic barriers to visiting the High for 6,000 or more public school students each year, and assists districts where arts education funding has been cut or is underfunded. Students participating in the Art Access program receive free admission to the High, free boxed lunches and Welcome Back cards for all participating students, allowing each child to return to the Museum with family and friends one time, free of charge.
Atlanta Public Schools (APS) After-School Program
This program brings 2025 students from threefive Atlanta Public Schools each year to the High for four weeks. Students work with a teaching artist on a special project such as creating a school mural and making clay tiles to narrate a story. The High funds student transportation and provides educators who deliver an invaluable enrichment experience for the children.
Center for Creative Teaching
This resource is designed to help educators find innovative ways to use the visual arts in their classes. Teacher resources are available from the High and other museums, including the National Gallery of Art. Educators have the opportunity to interact with Museum staff to discover new ways to enhance their teaching practice, differentiate instruction and enrich students' learning.
Docent Program
Through the Museum's docent training program, volunteer educators engage Museum visitors in meaningful experiences with the art. Docents attend training sessions, lead tours and participate in the Department of Education programs. Individuals accepted into the program lead school groups, ages K12th grade, as well as adult groups on tours of the Museum's permanent collection and special exhibitions.
Family Guides
These guides offer fun interactive activities and insight into specific works of art. Four different Family Guides are currently offered: Taking a Look at Architecture, Taking a Look at Decorative Art, Taking a Look at American Art and Dikenga: Discover African Art.
Family Learning Gallery
This destination caters to the Museum's growing family audience. Free to visitors, it is the starting point for young children (ages 38) and their families to explore the Museum. The gallery is an inspiring place that inspires lifelong museum-goers, and includes five unique high-touch Activity Areas.
Saturday Studio
Families with children ages 612 are invited to sample new artistic techniques inspired by our permanent collection and special exhibitions. This program attracts approximately 1,000 participants each year with children and parents creating and discussing art together. This is a wonderful opportunity for businesses to provide a special experience for co-workers and their families.
Toddler Thursdays
Designed for children ages 35, this program brings toddlers and their parents or caregivers to the Museum for hands-on activities related to the permanent collection or special exhibitions. For example, a recent workshop used chairs from the High's decorative arts collection to inspire children to make their own miniature chair out of popsicle sticks.
Friday Jazz
This is not a typical night out in Atlanta. The third Friday of each month, the Museum extends its hours and invites visitors to view art while listening to live jazz music from 510 p.m. Anywhere from 1,800 to 2,500 people join in this unique experience at Friday Jazz at the High, voted the Second Best Venue for Live Music in Atlanta by CitySearch.
Art in the City
For people who are looking for an after-work wind-down, Art in the City offers an opportunity each Thursday night to enjoy extended hours at the High where visitors view the collections and exhibitions and enjoy a program in a relaxing, uplifting environment that they can enjoy with their friends and colleagues.
