We invite you to become a volunteer at the High Museum of Artan experience that will not only enrich the lives of our patrons, but yours as well. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to engage with patrons through educational programs, greeting visitors and helping at special events, just to name a few. Volunteers are an essential part of the High. They work together with Museum staff to make visiting the High Museum of Art a pleasant experience for all of our patrons. The High Volunteer Program requires at least a 6 month to 1 year commitment with at least 6 hours encouraged per month.

Lecture Program Greeters
Lectures usually begin at 7 p.m. on Thursdays in the Hill and 2 p.m. on Saturdays in the Hill unless otherwise noted. Greeters welcome guests, take tickets, usher the guests into the auditorium before the program begins, and administer evaluation surveys. Shifts are two hours each and are from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings.

Information Desk Volunteers |
Friday Jazz Volunteers
Friday Jazz is the third Friday of each month at the High Museum from 5 to 10 p.m. Volunteers greet guests and distribute programs. Shifts typically run from 6 to 9 p.m.

Film Series Volunteers
Weekend evenings in the Rich Theatre, Woodruff Arts Center. Films begin at 8 p.m. Greeterstake tickets and usher guests into the auditorium before the screening.

Docent Volunteer Educators
The Docent Volunteer Educators serve the High by conducting tours for both school children and adults. Selected by the High's Education Department, these volunteers complete a specialized, one-year course of study.

Summer Internship Program
The internship program at the High Museum of Art is an eight-week long summer program available to currently enrolled or just graduated undergraduate college students. Interns at the High work unpaid, full-time, Monday, June 7 through Friday, July 31, 2010.
The summer internship offers the opportunity to gain practical work experience in a field where experience counts. We strive to give interns work that is meaningful, educational, and vital to the life of the Museum. Additionally, interns participate in a series of seminars with various departments, during which the staff provide in-depth information on their background, experience, and function at the High Museum.
Candidates accepted into the program are responsible for securing their own housing and transportation (including parking) for the duration of the program.

Corporate, Foundation and Government Fundraising Intern
Availability for one intern
Intern Supervisor: Jenee Marquis, Assistant to the Director of Museum Advancement
The Corporate, Foundation and Government Fundraising intern will be exposed to a variety of aspects pertaining to the Development Department. The intern will focus on assisting with corporate fundraising, foundation/government support, prospect research, cultivation, and stewardship. Projects that the Development intern will assist with include sponsor benefit fulfillment, database maintenance, preparation and planning for Development cultivation events, prospect research for upcoming sponsorship opportunities, and donor stewardship. A strong knowledge of Microsoft Office is preferred.
Individual Support/Director's Circle Intern

Intern Supervisor: Jenee Marquis, Assistant to the Director of Museum Advancement
The Individual Support/Director's Circle intern will be exposed to a variety of aspects pertaining to upper-level membership and individual giving. Projects that the Individual Support intern will assist with include benefit fulfillment, renewals and upgrades, database maintenance, preparation and planning for cultivation and member events, prospect research, and donor stewardship. A strong knowledge of Microsoft Office is preferred.

The Membership Interns will work with membership staff in event programming and implementation and research development. Interns will assist staff in serving a large membership base and gain applicable knowledge in membership operations, event planning, and research.

Intern Supervisor: Nicole Johnson, Public Relations Coordinator
The High Museum of Art Summer PR intern will aid staff through a variety of special projects related to the High's press efforts. The Intern's primary project will focus on organizing and handling press materials for the High's main exhibitionsincluding The Allure of the Automobile, EuroDesign and Dalí. He or she will also work with PR staff to research and edit the media database of over 1000 contacts and work with web team staff to research ways of reaching new audiences through new media online. The intern will also have the opportunity to participate in media preview events, help manage the daily workflow of press inquiries and develop written materials (such as press releases and media advisories) for exhibitions and programs.
Group Sales
Group Sales Intern

The Group Sales Intern will have the opportunity to participate, with current staff, in all aspects of the department's day-to-day responsibilities, including scheduling, business and sales development. The Museum Interpretation office will involve the intern in the development of all the interpretive tools for the Dalí exhibition opening in Augustlabels, audio tour, website, docent training. The intern will get a good look at how an exhibition comes together.
Public Programs Intern

Intern Supervisor: Erin Dougherty, Coordinator of Public Programs
The public programs intern will provide support for families visiting the High by helping with on-going summer family workshops and summer programs. We will also turn to you for your college expertise. The core project will be working with museum staff to develop special initiatives to reach out to colleges in the area. School Programs Intern
Availability for one intern
Intern Supervisor: Emily Hermans, Coordinator of School Programs
The School Programs Department serves teachers and school-aged students. The School Programs Intern will assist in developing and updating student tours and tour materials, will assist with professional development workshops for teachers, will aid in the preparation for upcoming exhibitions, and will assist local teachers in utilizing the resources in the High's Clendenin Center for Creative Teaching.
Strong organizational skills, computer proficiency, an outgoing personality, and some knowledge of curriculum and standards are highly desirable. Duties will include research, writing, interacting with teachers and students, and creating hands-on materials.
Curatorial
African Art Intern
Availability for one intern
Intern Supervisor: Carol Thompson, Fred and Rita Richman Curator of African Art
The African art department has a busy schedule of activities related to the development and interpretation of the permanent collection, exhibition and public programs planning and development, and more. Intern will assist with research and re-organization of the permanent collection, planning for the 2011 exhibition, Radcliffe Bailey: Art of an Ancient Soul, and day-to-day administrative activities. Duties include research, checklist development, and a full range of exposure to curatorial practices in this dynamic department.
Modern and Contemporary/Photography Intern
Availability for one intern
Intern Supervisor: Danielle Avram, Curatorial Assistant, Modern and Contemporary/Photography
The departments of Photography and Modern and Contemporary Art have busy schedules of exhibitions and public programs. The intern will assist with research and planning on the exhibition programs for 2010-2011. Duties include online research, primary research in local archives and special collections, and a full range of exposure to curatorial practices in two busy museum departments. This intern works with both the Photography and Mod/Con Curator.
