Volunteer

Volunteers play an important role in creating welcoming, engaging, and memorable experiences for visitors at the High Museum of Art. Whether supporting art-making activities, educational programs, public events, or visitor engagement, volunteers help connect people of all ages with art, ideas, and one another. Volunteers receive relevant training, regular program updates, invitations to volunteer appreciation events, and opportunities to deepen their knowledge of the museum’s collections, exhibitions, and educational initiatives.

Learning & Civic Engagement Program Volunteers

The High Museum Volunteer Program requires a commitment of six months to one year, with a minimum of two volunteer shifts (approximately six hours) per month. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

Volunteer Opportunities

The High Museum of Art offers two primary volunteer pathways, each providing meaningful opportunities to connect visitors with art and support the Museum’s mission.

High Museum of Art Learning & Civic Engagement Program Volunteers

Learning & Civic Engagement program volunteers support programs that inspire creativity, curiosity, and lifelong learning. Volunteers work alongside Learning and Civic Engagement department staff to assist with art-making workshops, multi-week classes, public conversations, professional development programs, school visits, and community events serving children, teens, adults, older adults, educators, and families. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy engaging with people and contributing to a welcoming environment. Learning Program Volunteer

Provide general support for Learning & Civic Engagement programs and events. Volunteers help ensure programs run smoothly by welcoming and directing guests, assisting with signups, preparing program spaces and materials, and providing other support as needed. Learning Program Volunteers assist with programs like Access for All, Family Saturday, Oasis, Public Conversations, and Teacher Appreciation events.

Adult Art-Making Volunteer
Support hands-on art-making experiences for adult learners by assisting with studio setup, clean up, and organization. Assist staff and participants and create a welcoming, organized, and engaging studio environment. Adult Art-Making Volunteers assist with programs like multi-week Studio Classes and one-off Studio Workshops.

High Museum of Art Guest Relations Volunteers

Guest Relations volunteers serve as ambassadors for the museum, helping create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for every visitor. Working alongside front-of-house staff, volunteers greet guests, provide wayfinding assistance, answer general questions, and support visitor services during regular museum hours, evenings, and special events. This role is well suited for individuals who enjoy interacting with the public and helping visitors feel comfortable, informed, and inspired throughout their museum visit. Museum Greeter
Serve as one of the first friendly faces visitors encounter at the High Museum of Art. Museum Greeters create a welcoming atmosphere by greeting guests, providing directions, answering general questions, and helping visitors begin their museum experience with confidence. Museum greeters assist on weekend days and during special events.

Information Desk Volunteer
Support visitors from the museum’s information desk by providing accurate information, answering questions, and helping guests make the most of their visit. Information desk volunteers assist on weekend days and during special events.

HIGH Frequency Friday Volunteer
Support one of the Museum’s signature monthly evening events by helping create an energetic, welcoming, and well-organized experience for guests enjoying art, music, and social activities.

UPS Second Sunday Volunteer
Help deliver the Museum’s largest monthly event by welcoming visitors, supporting activities, and creating an enjoyable experience for guests of all ages across the museum galleries and Sifly Piazza.

Friday Jazz Volunteer
Support the museum’s monthly jazz program by helping visitors enjoy an engaging and seamless experience while they explore exhibitions, live music, and special programming.

Docent Volunteer Educators

Dedicated to art and education, Docent Volunteer Educators are essential in creating a meaningful and memorable museum experience through engaging in-gallery tours for visitors of all ages. Visit our Docents page to learn more or to apply to become a docent.
